Tips for Choosing a Good Web Host

Expert Author Wendy Peterson
Rather you have a personal website or a business website the most important aspect of your site before you consider design and functionality is choosing a good web host. There are many web hosts all over the internet all advertising and wanting your business. However, you cannot just jump at the first host you see, there are many factors that are involved and you should know just what to look for when choosing a good web host.
What should you be looking for? How do you go about finding a good web hosting on this great expanse called the internet? Well, here is where we can help. We have done most of the homework for you, now all you need to do is take these tips and choose the best web host for your needs.
Tip #1 - Think of your needs and purpose. If you are needing a host for a personal website, you could consider a free web host. These are absolutely free to use and will provide you just what you need for a personal site. However, if you are in business, free hosts are not ideal for many reasons. You will not have the opportunity to purchase your own identifying domain name, the free hosts are filled with advertisement, and you have limited space to work with. Your customers will not appreciate an ad or pop-up filled website and therefore, you will lose customers.
Tip #2 - Consider how much space you will need for your website. Generally, this will depend on factors such as graphics, databases, and other features you might need to include. In looking at disk space, you also want to consider bandwidth as well. Bandwidth is attributed to the visitors to your space and how many "downloads" of graphics and features occur during visits. Many hosts limit this area (depending on packages you choose) and if you exceed your bandwidth allotment, your site will be temporarily shut down until the next rollover.Visit here for more information.
Tip #3 - You will want to consider your budget and the price. Remember though, you get what you pay for. The cheapest is not always the best. This is where you will need to do some homework. Compare several different web hosts and not only look at prices charged, but also features that come with those packages. You might pay less at one place, but for slightly more per month, you will get more features. This is a very important aspect to look for in your host.
Tip #4 - Make sure the good web host you choose offers the features and capabilities that you need for your website. Some features you might want to look for include MySQL, ASP, SSI, CGI, PHP, Perl, mail forwarding, control panels, FTP access, email, dedicated servers, wizards, shopping cart, and other such items you might need for your website.
Overall, finding the best web host for your needs will mean you need to conduct research and do some comparison-shopping to ensure that you get the most value for your money.
